Holistic Living – our Marketing Manager tries it for a day

Holistic therapies are designed to be embraced as a way of life – and here at The Ocean Spa we wanted to see what changes we could make in our day to day lives which would make a difference!

Our Marketing Manager was called up to the job and was sent out with some guidelines to leading a ‘holistic life’. Here’s how she got on:

“Okay so it’s 6:30am, I would normally be getting up for work now, but I’ve got to stay in bed until 7:15. I had a late one last night and one of my ‘first rules’ is that I must have at least 8 hours sleep.”

- A good night’s sleep will allow a more relaxed mind and make you more capable in stressful situations that may occur during the day.

“On getting up, I avoided the toast and the bacon rolls and found myself sat in front of a bowl of muesli with fresh fruit, I wasn’t sure at first, but I did feel a lot fuller afterwards and not quite so groggy.”

- It is important to eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as possible as well as incorporating organic foods into your diet where possible. Your diet can be seen as a form of holistic therapy which benefits mind, body and spirit.

“I’ve decided that today will be the day that I finally act on my friend’s advice and get myself checked out! I suffer with quite bad headaches which sometimes develop into migraines and one of my rules for today is to partake in at least one holistic therapy treatment. I opted for reflexology and I’ve got to say I did feel more refreshed and my head feels much clearer.”

- Reflexology activates the body’s natural healing mechanism which can help long and short term conditions. The treatment itself is relaxing and is performed mainly on the feet. The feet and hands help set the tension level for the rest of the body, they can be used to interrupt the stress signals and reset the body’s equilibrium.

“After an organic steak and fresh vegetables for dinner, I search out for a place to complete one of the final rules for my day – movement. For this I decide to head over to yoga – it was very nice to have a chance to stretch out, meditate and experiment with my breathing.”

- Movement in Holistic Therapies doesn’t have to be all about yoga and pilates; it is just about getting up and going. Many people like to do this through dance and sports instead. All of which have definite benefits on your mind, body and spirit.

“After a day of being ‘holistic’, I am pleased with how calm and refreshed I feel and am looking forward to incorporating a few of these ‘rules’ into my day-to-day life. I genuinely didn’t think I would benefit much from the different holistic therapies out there, but today has proved me wrong.”
